Vladimir Yanko has died

The bandy world has lost a legendary player and one of the most successful leaders and coaches. Vladimir Yanko passed away on May 16 at the age of 74 after a short illness.

Yanko was champion of the USSR 5 times in 1972, 1973, 1975, 1976 and 1978).

He was 3-time winner of the European Cup (1975, 1976 and 1978). Representing the USSR national team 1973-1979 he played 34 games and won the World Championship 4 times in 1973, 1975, 1977 and 1977.

Yanko was head coach of the USSR national team during 1987-1991, head of the Russian national team 1997-2001, 2004-2006 and 2007-2008 and  General Manager of the Russian national team – December 2006 – February 2007.

Yanko had many successful years in the Russian national bandy and even managed to lead the Finnish national team for one season.

He was a legendary coach in the international bandy. He was also awarded the Russian Order of Friendship (1998) and the Order of Honor (2007).

The bandyfamily has lost a legendary player and leader and FIB wants to deeply convey our thoughts to family and friends.
