The World Championship 1987 was the 15th tournament of all time. The tournament had five teams participating and was held in the cities of Stockholm, Gothenburg, Katrineholm, Köping, Motala, Örebro, Trollhättan, Skövde, Kungälv, Lidköping and Vänersborg in Sweden.

The championship was won by host Sweden after final victory over Finland at 7-2. It was Sweden’s third World Championship title of all time, while Finland won silver for the third time but for the first time since 1967. The bronze medals went to the defending champions of USSR, who defeated Norway 11-3 in the bronze game and thus ended outside the top 2 for the first time ever.
