This Women’s World Bandy Championship was played in Laappenranta, Finland (Villmanstrand in Swedish). It was the seventh Championship. Russia won the tournament for the first time in history, defeating Sweden 3-1 in the final. It was also the first time Sweden did not become World Champions.

Lappeenranta is a city and municipality in the region of South Karelia, about 30 kilometres from the Russian border. Laappenranta is situated on the shore of the Lake Saimaa in southeastern Finland, and is one of the most in the whole region.
