Laappenranta, Finland, 19-22 February
This Women’s World Bandy Championship was played in Laappenranta, Finland (Villmanstrand in Swedish). It was the seventh Championship. Russia won the tournament for the first time in history, defeating Sweden 3-1 in the final. It was also the first time Sweden did not become World Champions.

Lappeenranta is a city and municipality in the region of South Karelia, about 30 kilometres from the Russian border. Laappenranta is situated on the shore of the Lake Saimaa in southeastern Finland, and is one of the most in the whole region. Laappenranta has approximately 74,000 inhabitants (2021) and the city is the 13th largest in Finland.
Lappeenranta, the region’s centre for tourism, is the second most visited city by Russian tourists in Finland after Helsinki. The city is also a model for renewable energies and a clean environment in the living.
Laappenranta is the home of the Finnish elite club team Veiterä.
