This was the Championship where Russia lost its first game ever in World Championships when Sweden won by 3-1 in the opening round. Over 4,000 spectators watched the first match of the tournament. The Swedes broke the Soviet attacks already in midfield, and their teamwork was more agile than that of a forced opponent. In the second opening match of the games, Finland faced Norway.
In the final results of the World Championships, the USSR boasted first place as usual. The silver to Sweden. Finland received its fourth consecutive bronze.Â
