Helsinki and Porvoo, Finland, 15-20 February
The 1983 World Championships was the 13th tournament through time. The tournament had four teams participating and was held in the cities of Helsinki and Porvoo in Finland.
The championship was won by the defending World Champion Sweden after a final victory over USSR 9-3. It was Sweden’s second title of all time and the second consecutive title, while USSR also won silver for the second time. The bronze medal went to Finland, which defeated Norway 4-1 in the bronze game.
A final was introduced for the two best teams in the round robin and a bronze game for team 3 and 4, and the round robin was reduced from a double tournament where all teams met twice, to a single tournament with only one game each.
