The 1988 edition of the FIB World Cup for men was decided according to plan in Ljusdal and this year Swedish Vetlanda BK became champions. The team took some really good scalps on the way to the final victory. The team like Sirius, Helsinki and Stockholm on the way to the quarter-finals. There Vetlanda played against the home team Ljusdal and won 6-2 and in the semi final Vetlanda beat Russian Dynamo Moscow. The team also took a strong victory with 3-1 and in the final, Selånger was also beaten 1-3.
