Ljusdal and Edsbyn, Sweden, 23-26 October
The 2008 FIB World Cup was to be the last played in Ljusdal, Sweden, October 23-26. Already last season, some participating teams began to question whether the tournament could continue to be played outdoors in the month of October. Västerås SK refrained from participating this year, and instead chose indoor cups and training camps in Kemerovo in Russia. Vetlanda BK also abstained, and participated in the Kemerovo Cup.
Due to the warmer weather and the bad ice this year, the semi finals and the final this year were moved to Edsbyn indoor Arena. In the final, two teams from Sweden met, Edsbyns IF defeated Bollnäs GIF 3-2.Â
Edsbyn ended up on second place in Group A in the Round Robin. Edsbyn defeated OLS Uleåborg from Finland 5-1 and Vodnik 6-2 but the game against Russian Kuzbass ended up in a draw 2-2. In the quarter final Edsbyn defeated Uralsky Trubnik after a penalty shootout. In the semi final Edsbyn beat Zorkij 4-2.
Bollnäs also ended up in second place in Group D. Bollnäs lost against Dynamo Moscow 2-3 but got victories against Ljusdal 4-1 and Stabæk 5-0. Bollnäs advanced from the quarter final by winning against Yenisei 4-3 and in the semi final they won against Dynamo Moscow 3-1.
From next year the tournament will be played in Göransson indoor Arena in Sandviken.
