Unlike in previous years, a new series system was used. In Group A, eight countries played, divided by team level into two pools of four. Pool A was played by Russia, Sweden, Kazakhstan and Finland, while Pool B was played by Norway, Belarus, the United States and Canada. The championship was won by the host team Russia.Â
The tournament was played in four different arenas; Trud, Record and Zenith in Irkutsk and Stroitel in Shelekhov
