THIS IS OSLO

Oslo, from 1624 to 1925 Kristiania, is the capital of Norway. The municipality of Oslo is a county of its own, with over 680,000 inhabitants. The city of Oslo encompasses the cohesive buildings in and around the city and has over 1,000,000 inhabitants, while the entire metropolitan area has over 1.5 million. The city’s roots can be traced back to the time around the year 1000 and it became the capital in 1299.

Oslo became Norway’s capital during HÃ¥kon Magnusson’s reign as king. He built Akershus fortress and made it his residence. The Oslo people ran successful trade, but were eventually outcompeted by Hansan. During the 16th century, the Oslo merchants recovered from Hansan’s dominance, and shipping and timber trade were expanded.

Holmenkollen

Several major sporting events take place every year in Oslo, of which the most internationally renowned are the ski games Holmenkollen Ski Festival and the athletics competitions Bislett Games – one of fourteen athletic gals in the competition design Diamond League.

Oslo is also home to the teams Ullern, UllevÃ¥l and Ready in the Norwegian Eliteserien for men and for the women’s elite team Ready.
